This is a flood relief bridge on the plain south of the river. It collapsed during the 1960 earthquake and was replaced by a new structure whose piers straddle the locations of the original piers.

Also the following constructed: offices for administration and PW, houses for works manager and accountant, house for pointsman, five huts for track gang and works staff, stores for parcels, and warehouse for track materials. New wells dug at loco shed and 150m of wharf. Work started on two workers' houses, on enlargement of the forge and carpenters' shop, the conversion of the timber store into a carriage shop with a new store attached, the enlargement of the loco shed to take 10 engines, and backfilling the new wharf.
