Fabulous website. Wish I'd had access to this kind of info before my visits to south america in 1998 and 99, so many places that I visited and either didn't know had an interesting railway history or knew a little about but didn't have time to investigate. Excellent, keep up the good work.

I am surprise to ses that the pictures of the railway in Cabo Raper, Chile, belong to the colection of Allen Morrison. Have travelled(tripped over) some of the railways in South Georgia particularly at Leith Harbour where I worked for many years. Although it was not encouraged, many whalers used to ride on the "bucket" cars which were used to convey materials and equipment. The cars were pulled over the station by wires attached to a central winch

When we were there in 1999 we had hoped to get on board the train at Esquel, but alas we mis-timed it and the train was not there and not due in on the day we were there! Next time perhaps... Let us know how you are (I believe you've moved from Scotland) Best wishes Gerallt & Pat

Thank you very much for making this research available. Y Wladfa still holds a special place in the affections of all Welsh speakers, in particular. My wife and I are going to a lecture on Y Wladfa next week, by one of my wife,s Welsh tutors who taught in Patagonia, so I have printed a copy to take along with us. I agree that bringing one of the engines back "home" would be a lovely link between Wales and Patagonia; of course the engine would have to be named "Y Wladfa"! Regards Huw Williams
